Volunteer Program
Re|shelter welcomes the opportunity to work with volunteers to achieve our important mission. If you have experience and/or expertise in non-profit management, architecture and design, disability rights, the arts, fundraising/grantwriting, online research, and other relevant areas, please get in touch with us.
Some of the research projects we currently are in need of assistance with include creating lists of the following, with clickable links to websites and specific related pages within a website:
• existing non-profits whose model we might learn from, who we might apply for funding through, or who we could possibly collaborate with on future projects
• potential grants/competitions in healthcare, architecture, disability rights, the environment, the arts, and related areas
• elementary schools that are mold/pesticide aware
• precedents for making towns/buildings/offices fragrance free (for example, the CDC now has a fragrance free office policy)
• mortgage and housing-related government benefit programs that should be amended to accommodate the special housing needs of those disabled by environmental intolerances
• online fundraising websites/software that could help us to spread the word about re|shelter

Hello, I can feel for what these people are going through. Have any of them had the opportunity to try other health treatments along the lines of saunas, glutathione, comprehensive testing for hidden fungal issues and deficiencies etc? Have they had success with any of these particular treatments? Sincerely, Dennis

Hi Dennis,
Thank you for expressing compassion. I’m sure some of these people have tried various treatments, including those you mention. Those are all part of the healing toolbox that environmental medicine physicians use to treat environmental illness. At the top of their list is creating a safe home environment where the patient is not constantly challenged by chemical and other exposures. People have had varying success with these and similar treatments. These illnesses are all unique to the individual, as our genetic, environmental, dietary, biochemical, metabolic, and other histories are unique. There is not a one size fits all solution. It’s a complex puzzle that usually financially bankrupts sufferers before they find their own solution…

Hi, I’ve been having trouble with chemical sensitivity issues in the workplace regarding fragrances. I’m so thankful for this site.. I thought I was crazy, because of course no one belieaves me. I have been looking at housing called earthships, started in New Mexico because of this. They are self sustaining and made entirely from recycled materials. I just thought it might be of interest to the people here.
