Scent-Free Public Bathrooms

Since so many of us with environmental intolerances who are on safer housing searches end up sleeping in campgrounds and rest stops along our nation’s highway system, re|shelter would like to encourage government agencies to institute updated indoor air quality policies for public restrooms on highways and in state and national campgrounds. Since chemical sensitivity is a recognized disability in the United States, we believe that there should be fragrance free restrooms anywhere that you see a handicapped bathroom.

If you have any contacts, great ideas, precedent-setting examples, or other related information to share that might help us move forward with this initiative, please send them our way.

I have always felt there should be a separate campground away from other campgrounds in every National and State park that would be no burning and have fragrance free restrooms. But I agree all restrooms built by state and national government should be fragrance free.

Would be happy to write emails or sign a petition voicing that need if given the correct source’s email address. Sometimes just knowing who to write to that has the power to make that decision woulld be helpful.

Thank you Gwyn, that will come in very handy! Please join our group on Planet Thrive to start a dialogue about this project: http://planetthrive.ning.com/group/reshelter. If not, we will get in touch when we are ready to move forward on this one. Big hug to you! Julie G.
