Tips for a Mold Free Home from a mold sensitive person who built her own home:

We built the house 7 years ago, so I am sure even better materials are available today. We used an environmental consultant (Mary Cordero knows him) named Richard Scarborough (818) 873-0200. We did tons of research ourselves.

    • We built a massive foundation with french drains, so all water would be guided away from the house.

    • We wrapped the whole house in Tyvek wrap, so the house could breath.

    • We used cement wall in all places where there could be water damage, like in the showers, behind sinks, kitchen etc.

    • We have tile floors which breath.

    • We have an amazing AC/heater with built-in HEPA filters.

    • My husband cleaned and coated all the wood which was
used to frame the house, to make it mold resistant, a huge task.

    • We change our air filters every 6 month and use HEPA vacuums.

    • We use ventilation fans in the bathrooms, so no moisture accumulates.

    • All of our sprinklers are pointed away from the house and we have no landscaping directly next to the house.

    • We change our bed pillows every 3 months.
