Re|shelter Underground Network (RUN)

We used to offer the Re|shelter Underground Network (RUN) group — an organized network of people with environmental intolerances on Facebook that helped place others in safe housing around the country. RUN relied on a vast network of people to help house others in great distress who were being systematically ignored and left to suffer alone, and we encouraged everyone to join this group whether or not you were looking for housing yourself.

The group is no longer associated with re|shelter — it is now run by Andrea Hartley and is called EI Safe Housing, you’ll need to have a Facebook account and request to join the group here: Once approved by Andrea, you will be able to access the posts and make posts yourself.

I am located in the eastern foothills of the Sierra, 50 miles south of Reno. This whole neighborhood is scent free, and I am able to do all the local activities safely. This is the safest spot I have found in 33 years of searching.
I have a house share with partial rent work exchange possible. There is a safe cabin and other houses for rent in my neighborhood. I live in Topaz Ranch Estates, 1-3 acreage horse property community just E of Hiway 395 in NV just N of CA/NV line, east 3 miles on Hiway 208. This is an extremely safe area, moderate 4 season climate, winter highs in 40’s and 50’s, desert dry climate, Summer highs in the 90’s. I have gotten MUCH better here. There is plenty of room, electric and water hookups for an RV, camper, etc.

I am a wellness consultant specializing in MCS, CFS, FM. You can get much better!

I live in Nova Scotia. I think that we have more knowledge due to the work of a non-profit organization now known as Environmental Health Association of Nova Scotia, the largest indoor air disaster in the world happened here in Halifax at one of our biggest hospitals, The Veterans Memorial Building, and Dr. Gerald H Ross is a Nova Scotian who became ill and went on to work extensively to raise awareness locally and around the world.

I have become well enough to lose my homelessness for now and I live in an apartment building that isn’t perfect, took a lot of effort to get into shape, but that has been OK for about a year. I now may have to move because the bedbug epidemic has the landlord crazy and there is spraying going on. They will not tell me when and where this will happen. If there is any spraying that comes closer to me I will have to leave in a hurry.

I have to travel to Baltimore and stay there for a while after some surgery. Does anybody know anywhere to stay that is as scent-free as possible. It is NOT the Fairfiled Inn that claims to be the new green lodging hotel in Baltimore. Even after calling twice about the chemicals, we were still given a scented room. I was sick all night. Unfortunately Green Lodging does not equate to fragrance or chemical free air quality.
Anyway, desperate to find somewhere to stay. This is my 5th surgery due to other botched surgeries. I found my miracle doctor, but now I need somewhere to stay while out of state.
Thanks a bunch! Have a Super Day!

Environmental illness is of course easier to recover from if caught in time. But, you have to know what to do to stop it dead in its tracks and reverse it. Get some books written by Dr. Sherry Rogers, M.D. who has recovered from EI but the very first thing you have to do is STOP the exposures! Secondly, is, you have to try to get the chemicals out of your body. Some people find saunas helpful but if you are heat intolerant, as a lot of us are, then that does not work. Colon hydrotherapy can be therapuetic. Purified water and clean air. eliminate all toxic materials that may be offgassing from your home. Try to purchase organics if at all possible. Nutritional supplementation can be useful if you find a good doc who can help you to discover what you need. Muscle testing can be helpful with that. Watch out for exposure to excessive EMFs as you do not want to develop sensitivity to those. I have found accupuncture to be helpful as well.

You may contact me if you need and further recommendations.

a friend who is mcs needs a room to rent for a week at a time. she has scheduled carpet removal and house cleaning… but everyone she contacts in AZ with a house or room available either will not rent for a week or two, or simply will not return phone calls.

if there is someone in the lower elevations of AZ that can rent a room to my friends (this month preferable), please contact me.

she can get around on her own when not exposed to chemicals or mold.

I live in New Mexico. My rented guesthouse is infested with black mold. I am living in the bathroom as I look for safe housing. Does anyone know of nice safe housing? A guesthouse, or a temp room while I keep looking for permanent housing? I would like to move out of state…to the north west would be just great!!! I have a small secure monthly income, and I come with references.
Thank you for any help or positive thoughts sent this way.

    Please contact me at

    Ginger Louise
I am a single mom my son is 12 and we are mold and chemical sensitive. We have been sick for 6 years. I just got done “camping” for three weeks (can’t afford the $30.00 a day camping fee) and am staying in the living room of a friends condo for the next few days. Then we will move in temporally with a friend. We desperately need a safe place to live.

I am trying to live on $5-600. And $250. Food stamps a month. We have no family support and our “friend ” support is wearing thin. All of my money goes to supplements, vitamins, gas and food ( we have a lot of food sensitivities as well). We are living in San Diego. I have found a newly built school for my son to attend so hopefully he will be safe there. But we need a safe place to live and I need a safe place to work…I feel like I am asking for the impossible and feel like I am losing hope. I was an artist and had my own business then I was an instructional assistant in an autism classroom. I would be willing to relocate if it involved a safe place to live and work (i will work anywhere!) near a safe middle school for my kiddo…please repost this if you can. My phone number is 858-204-9747 my name is ginger… We don’t have a lot of stuff because I got rid of everything because it was all contaminated by the black mold…I have a car and a tent and some clothes…just the essentials. I am a very hard worker and am very responsible hopefully there is a miracle out there somewhere? Thanks for any help or info. Xoxoxox-ginger and nic
Ginger, or Ginga as her friends and the art and fashion communities know her, was raised in San Diego, CA without any formal exposure to the art world and its conventions, yet in recent years, her reputation has risen to a considerable degree of prestige both locally and nationally in the entertainm

I had to get rid of all of my art it was contaminated as well…

I was wondering if anyone could help out a friend of mine who is in need. He is stuck in a moldy house in the Michigan area and like a lot of us does not have too many resources to get out. I was wondering if anyone could help out even with just a backyard to put up a tent in until he can find his feet or some idea of somewhere to go that is nearish (mold free hotel??). Hes aware of the cross contamination risk so would be starting with new stuff. I feel if this person can get out quickly he may well have a really good chance of recovery.

I’m struggle with MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) and EI (Environmental Illness) and have a room for rent in a safe cabin until October 31st. The location is Bolton Landing, NY on Lake George – a very high oxygen lake with ‘oligotrophic’ status. I’m right on Lakeshore Drive and sit at the lake daily to do breathing therapy exercises. If anyone not involved with smoking/drinking/drugs is in need of temporary housing ($400 all included), please contact me ASAP at

    Thank you,
    D. Marie
P.S. I don’t have a Facebook account, so if someone will include my info there, that would be wonderful.

    Hi Josh,
I found a ton of ads on Craigslist for chemically safer housing in Santa Fe. I posted them all in the last few weeks on the Facebook RUN group. The link to join is in the original post on this page. Please check the group’s wall, and also search on Craigslist for relevant terms like “chemical” “chemically” “fragrance” “sensitive” “eco” “allergies” etc. You’ll be surprised how many people are posting with this terms these days. Best, Julie

Hi – I am 43 and have been homeless (living out of my car and tent) on and off since 2009. I have endured the elements and many other things that have not been condusive to healing. I will have no money left after July/August. I am in desperate need of some place to go where I am not exposed to wood smoke, vehicle exhaust, pesticide/herbicide spraying that is done in the forests. I really need help. I can do some chores in exchange for staying some place. I have references. Please contact me if you have anything or know of anyone that can help. Thank you. (
(I have a blog on my experiences being homeless on Planet Thrive under “V” if you want to see what it’s like)

Hello, I’m writing in regards of Sylvain Lavigne. This is a Urgent severe matter. He’s in Quebec Canada. Born with severe MCS/EMF. In 2011 he contacted Lyme disease and his health took a huge turn for the worse. Forced to sell everything he has and move to Quebec. Where he is living now is a very unsafe place for MCS. He needs immediate help to get to a safe place. He has no family or friends to help. Can’t get proper medical treatment. Hes hanging on by threads all alone and can’t take care of himself. No air conditioning either. Time is running out. He has several broken bones. Feet wrist and hands. He can’t get proper food and water. A MCS safe place needs immediate action.

Hi. In need of housing-room rental asap. Not doing well from a lot of pesticide exposure. Live in Traverse City Michigan and need a safer area to live. I haven’t worked for a year and a half. I can cook/bake and clean with non-toxic products. I am quiet, respectful . I may be going to a healing center in Ann Arbor in early June and after that hope to find a place. Thank you, Julie

    Hi Julie,
Re|shelter does not assist individuals with individual housing searches. We are a very small non-profit and are not staffed for that. There are many resources on our website for people searching for housing, please check the links we provide at the bottom of every page on our site. In addition, you can post your needs on the EI Safe Housing group on Facebook and MCS Safe Shelter on Best, Julie
