Emergency Shelter Campground
The Emergency Shelter Campground is a proposed short-term overnight “clean air” campground for people with environmental sensitivities. Our hopes are to develop a prototype for a small cabin with indoor/outdoor sleeping, cooking, and bathing facilities in order to accommodate a wide range of environmental intolerances. We will be working with architecture students to develop this prototype. There will also be some shared facilities. We are currently seeking funding for this project, as well as a location.
Our hope is to provide 10-15 temporary “campsites” for people who need urgent overnight accommodations, or a safe transition space while they reevaluate their life needs.

wonderful…we had thought the KOA type cabins would work well if they were portable and made out of safe materials. Our idea had the cabins self sufficient, with an enclosed garden area, but also with a mess hall, library, media room away from the cabins. It has been years since we thought of this as my husbands heart attack put our plans on the back burner.
I am so glad to see all of this in such a professional format…it is so HOPEFUL!

Hi Connie!
Thanks for sharing that! I stayed at KOA campgrounds a couple years ago. The cabins were too toxic for me, even the porch. But my experience there was part of the inspiration for this idea. Would love to hear more about your vision…please come share on our PT group: http://planetthrive.ning.com/group/reshelter xx Julie

Oh would I ever love to see this dream come true!! I have Electromagnetic sensitivity & also severe MCS. ( yes I am online but have to strictly limit my allowed time). My husband & I live at a campground in a tiny, old, camper because we cannot afford more (because I’m disabled & can’t work ). Everyone around us smokes. People burn scented candles with windows open, wash clothes with drier sheet smells fill the air, etyc.etc.etc. There is not one place I can go in the whole campground that is “safe” for me. Smells go right into our camper because it’s old & drafty. Bathrooms & showers are cleaned with nasty chemicals. I could go on, & on, & on & on……..
One thing I would suggest, beg, plead! Is that whatever you make have it affordable!!!!
